Dr Brendan Lim

Dentist

Dr Brendan Lim represents a young generation of dentists who are as adept with established techniques as they are with more progressive practices.

His clinical experience spans a wide range of services, including diagnosis, treatment planning, preventive care, periodontics, restorative dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, paediatrics, and exodontia.

Known for his calm, attentive approach, Dr Brendan takes the time to communicate clearly with his patients, ensuring they understand their options and feel supported throughout their care.

At the clinic, he is reshaping the patient experience by sharing insights on progressive recommendations like biomimetic dentistry — a method that prioritises patient comfort, precision, and preserving the natural tooth structure. It’s modern, but at its core, it’s about making patients feel understood and truly cared for.

Educational Background

Dr. Brendan’s passion for engineering and hands-on problem-solving naturally guided him toward dentistry, where precision and technical skills are essential. While earning his Bachelor of Science at the University of Western Australia, he received both the Clough Scholars Program Scholarship in Mechanical and Production Engineering and the UWA Pursuit Engineering Scholarship.

Ultimately, he chose to pursue dentistry for his advanced education, as it offered the ideal blend of his interests: science, practical skills, and the opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives.

Dr Brendan went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Western Australia. During his studies, he was awarded the prestigious John Prichard Memorial Prize for Paediatrics, an honour given to the student with the highest marks in Research Design, Statistics, and Dental Public Health.

To keep providing high-quality care, Dr Brendan recently completed training in nitrous sedation. This enables him to offer a more comfortable experience for anxious patients.

Expertise and Services

Dr Brendan is particularly interested in biomimetic dentistry, which aims to preserve as much of the natural tooth as possible.

“Biomimetic dentistry means striving to replicate the natural structure of the tooth, making use of strong adhesives and bonding to create half-crowns or onlays and overlays,” he says. “I really believe this is the future: mimicking how the tooth was meant to function. Every tooth has a nerve inside, and the less we do to it, the better it is biologically. That’s the whole concept.”

Inspired by pioneers like Dr Pascal Magne, Dr Brendan leans towards restoration without over-treatment. “Dr. Pascal Magne is an inspiration,” he says. “The perspective we’re taking is: How can we replace decayed or worn-down tooth structure with something as close to the natural tooth as possible?”

Innovation and Empathy

Dr Brendan looks forward to the clinic’s moves to integrate more advanced technology like 3D scanners and milling machines for same-day restorations, alongside nitrous sedation. These advancements allow for more precise, efficient treatments, and support his true focus: understanding and addressing each patient’s unique needs.

“What’s most dear to my heart is the anxious patient,” he says. “There are so many people who don’t come to the dentist for five or ten years, and by the time they do, everything’s broken down because they didn’t have options to help with their anxiety.

He adds: “One of my proudest moments was seeing a patient who hadn’t been able to get dental treatment in four years because of a severe needle phobia. Having options like nitrous sedation or happy gas, instead of IV sedation, can truly make a difference for patients like him.”

Empathy plays a big role in Dr Brendan’s approach. As someone who was once afraid of dentists, he knows how intimidating the dental chair can be. “I always say to my patients, ‘‘I get it. I’m with you, too. I want to treat you the way I’d want to be treated.”

He takes a comprehensive view of each patient’s health, from their lifestyle to their medical history, to provide the best possible care. “The mouth is connected to the rest of the body,” he says. “If someone has diabetes or osteoporosis, that affects how we approach their dental care. It’s all connected.”

He adds as an example: “A lot of our older patients have conditions like diabetes or osteoporosis. How can we take that into account in their treatment? If a tooth is heavily decayed and they’re going to start bone therapy in six months, how will we help them minimise risks?”

Recharging to Do His Best Work

Outside of the office, Dr Brendan enjoys exploring new recipes with his partner. “We love food, so we're always cooking and trying new things,” he shares. Weekends are reserved for family and friends: “Monday to Friday, everyone’s busy, so weekends are for seeing our families, going out for lunch or dinner, and catching up.”

He also finds balance through golf and solo activities like cycling. “It’s important to recharge so I can bring my best self to the clinic every day.”
